Maldives, a growing country.

This is a video I'm really excited to share, as it is one of my first I apologize for the bad quality. This video sums up the way turism has affected the country. It also talks about Maldives being one of the LDC (least developed countries), and how it's moving itself upwards.

Here are some links to the sites:

Enjoy!

Flood crisis- Is there a way out?

Thailand’s flood crisis may be one of the most important issues at hand these days. Not only are people alarmed everyday by the news, but the fear of water gushing into your house is rather frightening. Flood prevention walls have been build throughout Thailand’s districts in order to reduce the citizens fears. People have been stacking their houses with sandbags, food, and day-to-day supplies. Thailand’s flood crisis, is one of it’s worst since 50 years. Not only have there been over 300 deaths but the numbers are rising day by day. Now with areas such as Donmueng and Rangsit flooded people are panicking. With the government’s indecisive answers to the public, people fear the worst. Grocery stores such as Lotus, Big C, and 24 hour shops, have sold out their main goods such as water and food.

People’s main concern is food, water, and survival supplies. Though the heart of Thailand, Bangkok, is safe, people are aware of it’s dangers. People have been traveling to unaffected areas such as Pattaya, Khao Yai, and Hua Hin. This danger and fight for survival is rather terrifying. People moving and stacking their house with goods causes lack of resources. If people realize the lack of recourses this may cause a sudden panic for the country. Grocery stores are lacking water and food. People all around Thailand have supplied themselves with the needs and wants in case of floods. As stores such as 711 are running out, the main concern is giving Thai people the supplies they need. Though this may seem as a big issue, there are others such as sanitation. Sanitation is a big issue at hand. The water affecting the people comes through the canals. As these canals are rather dirty and have a sickening smell, being surrounded by it is not fun. As far as this issue goes, sanitation will cause medical problems and new diseases.

Now people may ask why. How did Thailand get all this water? Through the years Thailand has collected water for agriculture. Which were stored in these dams throughout the country. Throughout this year the monsoons and rains has given Thailand one of the biggest rainfalls ever. With that, the dams became more filled. Now that the dams have been broken due to the storage, floods have occurred. All there’s left to wonder is “Who’s really here to blame?”

Now with the American troops being fired off by the government, Thailand is left on it’s own. The question concerning ‘how far the flood will go’ still remains a mystery. It is in our hand’s to save ourselves first, and if it’s satisfying enough stocking your home up with food and sandbags is all you can do. In the mean time you can secure your house and leave the area. The best way to keep yourself safe is to always have an emergency medical kit with you and have water and food at home. If there have been warnings of water leave the area or move everything up to the second floor. As this flooding crisis may be rather daunting, being safe is important.

Our World Today

As I was reading through the article called “7 billion” that my history teacher gave me, I came up with 10 most important facts/points about the article. Reading the article was rather integrating as most of the story focused on the population and natural resources in our daily lives. It made me think about the impacts that I leave behind everyday. As overpopulation is a rather global issue, I think we all should take part and do every little thing we can. Here is a summary of the top 10 most interesting things I found in the article:

10. Natural resources- as more and more natural resources are used to support our enormous population the world itself is struggling with natural disasters. The growing population needs a huge amount of natural resources to produce enough food/goods for the world.

9. Third world countries- have the highest birth rates. This is because of the lack of education, recourses, and medicine. The increase of birth rates in slums and not fully developed countries is a huge issue to tackle.

8. One child policy- in China has a huge impact on the overall world population today. As china is one of the major populated countries in the world the one child policy has lessened the birth rate by a huge amount. Not only are the numbers now lessened by almost half but also the people are using fewer resources, leaving them for the next generations.

7. Medicine- this is a huge affect of why the population is growing today. With medicine people are allowed to live longer. This causes an increase in population. People are now living longer and relied on medicine. This is a huge issue and answer to why today’s growth in population is increasing by the second.

6. The middle class- will increase in population. The cause of this is because nowadays people have a bigger chance to work themselves into the middle class. With this opportunity the people are allowed to have more kids as they have enough money to support them. By this we will gain a huge number in population.

5. Decreasing natural recourses- as population grows natural resources are decreasing. This means goods and needs such as food and water will be lacking. This is a major concern to people, as our daily needs for survival will be lacking and people will be starving even more. This is a huge issue. In order to control our natural resources people will need to tackle the issue about overpopulation.

4. Science- is one of the major causes for over population. As people rely more on technology there is a huge cause for more people. Now that we can find an answer to everything using technology people are allowed to have more kids and live longer. When families live longer the population grows and people are allowed to make more kids

3. Immigrants move cities- this causes people to not be able to have enough resources in one area. As people move and immigrant’s travel, they usually travel in a huge train/bus/boat/etc this gives people a bigger chance to move to another place together and using more resources in that area. This causes the area to get limited amounts of goods as the area was once only for 100,000 people, now it has to take care of 200,000 people. This changes the role of everything in that part/area.

2. Education for women- would give them the opportunity to get educated and learn to establish their own lifestyles. With this opportunity women will be able to build their own family. The cause of overpopulation in many areas are factors of uneducated women. Women should be educated and taught about the importance of building and deciding on a family.

1. The increase of population- will endanger us all. The issue cannot be changed immediately but can be taken into consideration. Changing today will affect the future generations and build a better world. But if we do not take action and teach this generation about the issue at hand, further generations might ignore all these problems and end up even more endangered than before.
